Monika Janus is a registered Nurse Practitioner who has always had an interest and passion for preventative medicine. After obtaining her degree in Nursing in 2012 from the University of Calgary, Monika spent time working in medicine, labor and delivery, and in remote First Nation Communities in Saskatchewan.
She then decided to further her education and become a Nurse Practitioner. She wanted to make a bigger impact on the health and care of her patients and provide the type of care which seems to be missing in the health care system. She graduated with a Master of Nursing-Primary Care Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2018.
Throughout her nursing career, Monika cared for many patients who were experiencing decreased quality of life due to deterioration from their chronic conditions---chronic conditions which are preventable and treatable. This motivated Monika to research why these gaps in health care exist, and what the solutions are. Her research led her to the discovery of Functional Medicine.
Along with obtaining her bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing, Monika has completed Functional Medicine training through the ADAPT Practitioner Training Program through the Kresser Institute and is a member of The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). She is currently taking required courses to become certified through IFM. Her knowledge and experience in primary care as a Nurse Practitioner along with this additional training has prepared her to provide Functional Medicine services at Create Health.
